F’nAround Reviews: Sushi Plus Rotary Sushi Bar Where Your Sushi Comes to You
Some restaurants have servers bringing your food to the table.
Sushi Plus asks…
“What if the table came to the food?”
Well… sort of.
That’s the fun of a rotary sushi bar.
For lunch we stopped by the South Loop location at 611 S. Wells Street in Chicago, and if you’ve never been to a conveyor belt sushi restaurant before, this is a fantastic place to start.
How It Works
The concept is simple.
Fresh sushi, appetizers, desserts, and small plates continuously travel around the restaurant on a conveyor belt.
When something looks good…
You grab it.
Finished?
Stack your empty plates.
Every plate is color-coded, with each color representing a different price, so by the end of your meal you can literally see how much you’ve eaten by looking at the stack in front of you.
It’s part lunch.
Part game.
Part “I probably shouldn’t grab another plate…”
…followed immediately by grabbing another plate.
The South Loop AYCE Option
The South Loop location also offers a 90-minute All-You-Can-Eat option for $25 per person, which is an incredible value if you’re planning to sample a little bit of everything.
We went as a group of four, and they were running a promotion where two meals were half price, making the experience even more affordable.
If you’re hungry, the AYCE option is hard to beat.
The Food
The variety was impressive.
There were classic sushi rolls, specialty rolls, appetizers, desserts, and plenty of options continuously rotating around the restaurant.
A few standouts quickly became table favorites.
The Garlic Steak was packed with flavor.
The Surf & Turf roll disappeared almost as fast as it arrived.
And while watching plates go by is entertaining, not everything has to come from the conveyor belt.
Certain specialty items are delivered directly to your table by a robot traveling on an overhead track, which somehow makes ordering sushi feel like you’re eating a few years into the future.
It’s a gimmick…
But it’s a really fun gimmick.
Don’t Skip Dessert
One surprise we weren’t expecting?
Dole Whip soft serve. They have this in pineapple and it’s amazing.
If you’re a Disney fan, you already know.
If you’re not…
You should become one.
It’s smooth, refreshing, and the perfect way to finish a sushi meal.
They also had an adorable Psyduck-shaped pudding, proving that whoever designed the dessert menu clearly understands their audience.
Don’t forget to get the mochi the mango mochi was top notch! They were out of strawberry mochi when we went but the mango didn’t disappoint.
The Experience
Sushi Plus isn’t just about eating.
It’s interactive.
You find yourself watching the conveyor belt, pointing out dishes to everyone else at the table, debating whether you’ve had enough…
…and then grabbing one more plate anyway.
It’s casual, fun, and surprisingly affordable, especially if you take advantage of the AYCE option.
Whether you’re bringing friends, family, or introducing someone to conveyor belt sushi for the first time, it’s one of those restaurants that’s as entertaining as it is delicious.
F’nAround Verdict
Great sushi.
Great value.
Great experience.
Sometimes restaurants are memorable because of the food.
Sometimes because of the atmosphere.
Sushi Plus manages to deliver both.
We’ll absolutely be back.
Would We Go Back? Without hesitation.
