F’nAround Reviews: Butcher & The Burger A Birthday Burger Worth Celebrating
Sometimes the best birthday lunch isn’t at a fancy steakhouse.
Sometimes it’s just a really, really good burger.
For my birthday, my family took me to Butcher & The Burger in Chicago, and after one meal, I completely understand why this place has such a loyal following.
I ordered their Smash Burger on a pretzel bun with their signature Butcher Sauce, fries, and a side of Black Truffle Mayo.
The lunch special?
A burger, fries, and a drink for under $20.
In today’s restaurant world, that’s becoming harder and harder to find.
The Burger
The first thing you notice is that this isn’t some frozen hockey puck pretending to be a burger.
It’s fresh.
Juicy.
Perfectly cooked.
The pretzel bun held everything together without falling apart, while adding just enough flavor to complement the beef instead of stealing the show.
Then came the surprise MVP.
The Black Truffle Mayo.
I originally ordered it for the fries, but after one taste it quickly found its way onto the burger as well. It added a rich, earthy flavor that elevated an already great burger into something even better.
Every bite just worked.
The Fries
Crispy on the outside.
Soft on the inside.
Perfect for dipping into the truffle mayo.
Sometimes fries are just something that comes with the burger.
These actually deserved to be eaten with the truffle mayo. We all don’t agree on this but I liked it.
The Birthday Surprise
One of the things that really stood out wasn’t even on the menu.
While my brother and I were talking, one of the employees overheard that it was my birthday.
A few minutes later they surprised us with an order of fresh beignets on the house.
Nobody asked.
Nobody hinted.
They simply wanted to do something nice.
It’s a small gesture, but those little moments are what separate a good restaurant from one people remember.
The Atmosphere
Walking in, it’s obvious these people love burgers.
The walls explain different USDA beef grades, the menu is filled with custom burger options, and the whole place has the feel of a neighborhood burger shop run by people who genuinely enjoy what they do.
It’s casual, welcoming, and focused on one thing…
Making great burgers.
F’nAround Verdict
Great food is always memorable.
Great service makes you want to come back.
Butcher & The Burger managed to do both.
The smash burger was juicy, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. The pretzel bun was excellent, the truffle mayo was worth ordering even if you don’t think you’re a truffle fan, and the unexpected birthday beignets were the perfect way to end lunch.
We’ll absolutely be back.
