Yadeem’s On The Go and Munnchiez

Sometimes reviewing food requires careful analysis.

Sometimes it requires Mike learning that when someone hands you fried catfish straight out of the fryer, you probably shouldn’t immediately shove the entire thing into your mouth.

At Summer’s End Smokeout, we found Yadeem’s On The Go, a Milwaukee-based food operation serving up seafood, comfort food and some seriously fresh fried food.

And when we say fresh, we mean Mike-burned-the-roof-of-his-mouth-and-had-to-reconsider-his-bite-size fresh.

Yadeem’s On The Go operates out of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and its menu runs through everything from salmon and catfish to wings, sandwiches, bowls, sides and desserts. Online menus feature dishes including deep-fried salmon bites, fried catfish, stuffed and baked salmon, and Grandma Inez’s Banana Pudding.

At SESO, Mike went directly for the seafood.

Fried Catfish & Salmon Bites

First came the fried catfish and fried salmon bites.

Both arrived piping hot — a fact Mike discovered approximately half a second after taking his first bite.

There are food critics who discuss texture, temperature and presentation.

Mike’s initial analysis was closer to:

“OH, THAT’S HOT.”

Lesson learned.

Smaller bites followed.

Once his mouth recovered enough to actually taste what he was eating, Mike loved both. The outside had that fresh fried crunch while the fish inside remained tender, and the seasoning brought everything together.

The salmon bites were especially interesting because fried salmon isn’t something you see at every food truck. Yadeem’s menu describes them as fresh-cut salmon squares fried until the edges are crispy and seasoned with the business’s original recipe blend.

Then came the sauce.

That Garlic Sauce Hits

Mike paired the food with Yadeem’s garlic sauce, and there wasn’t much analysis required.

It hits.

Creamy, garlicky and exactly the kind of sauce that makes you start dipping things into it that probably weren’t originally intended to be dipped.

Mike would absolutely get it again.

Yadeem’s All-Purpose Seasoning

We also got introduced to Yadeem’s all-purpose seasoning.

Yadeem discussed the seasoning with us as something he uses not only for flavor but as part of his approach to ingredients associated with inflammation and wellness.

We’re food reviewers, not doctors, so we’re not independently making a medical claim about what a seasoning can treat or prevent.

What we can tell you is that the man clearly understands seasoning.

Considering what Mike had just eaten, we weren’t exactly in a position to argue with the flavor.

Munnchiez Detroit Style Enters the Story

There was another surprise inside the same food-truck experience.

The Philly cheesesteak egg roll Mike tried came from Munnchiez Detroit Style, another Milwaukee food business operating from the same truck at SESO.

Munnchiez specializes in Detroit-inspired comfort food and gourmet egg rolls, and the Philly cheesesteak version fit the assignment perfectly: crispy exterior, loaded interior and exactly the kind of festival food you can walk around eating.

Munnchiez Detroit Style also operates in Milwaukee and offers food-truck service and catering.

And Then Came the Banana Pudding

This is where the review ended.

Not because we ran out of food.

Because Mike dropped the microphone.

Literally.

Yadeem’s Grandma Inez’s Banana Pudding came out, Mike took a bite, processed what had just happened and then dropped the mic.

We therefore have no choice but to officially classify this moment as:

The Yadeem’s Mic Drop.

Creamy banana pudding, bananas, wafers and enough sweetness to finish a day of wandering around a music festival exactly the way nature intended.

Mike loved it.

Actually, Mike loved everything he tried.

The fried catfish.

The salmon bites.

The garlic sauce.

The Philly cheesesteak egg roll from Munnchiez.

And finally the banana pudding that apparently rendered our microphone unnecessary.

The F’nAround Verdict

Summer’s End Smokeout introduced us to a lot more than music.

Yadeem’s On The Go was another example of why wandering around festivals and trying whatever catches our attention has become one of our favorite parts of covering them.

Mike came for some fried fish.

He burned his mouth.

He learned portion control.

He discovered garlic sauce.

And eventually he dropped the damn microphone over banana pudding.

That’s a successful food review.

If you catch Yadeem’s On The Go around Milwaukee or at another event, Mike recommends giving them a try — although he’d also recommend letting the fried food cool down for approximately five seconds longer than he did.
