Intro to one thing article

We had a long conversation at F’nAround about which courtroom story to tell first.

The finalists were pretty entertaining.

A Harvard-educated attorney, former Mayer Brown and K&L Gates partner being admonished by the judge for reading notes from his pocket while testifying.

Or the memorable line of questioning by an attorney from Latimer LeVay & Fyock trying to understand one of our meme graphics.

Both would make for great stories.

But after thinking about it, neither is the story that matters most.

The story that matters is that an Illinois court upheld our assertion of reporter’s privilege, allowing us to protect confidential sources while our reporting was put under a microscope in open court.

Courtroom moments come and go.

Constitutional principles last.

That’s the story we’re publishing first.
