Sometimes you go looking for a story.

Sometimes you’re just looking for a vape.

On our way through Wisconsin to cover Summer’s End Smokeout in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, we stopped at a vape shop.

What the employees told us sounded strangely familiar.

Kentucky. January 2025.

We wrote about what happens when regulation doesn’t technically ban a market, it simply changes who can afford to participate in it.

Then came Wisconsin.

Then Indiana.

Different laws. Different mechanisms. Similar economic consequences.

And now hemp is entering the equation.

Coincidence? Conspiracy? Neither conclusion is necessary.

Sometimes all you have to do is follow the regulations, follow the money, and pay attention to who is still standing when everyone else gets regulated out of the room.

The data is out there.

The patterns are becoming easier to see.

And cannabis should probably be paying attention.
