Dugan’s: A Dog-Friendly Happy Hour Gem in Greektown
As summer approaches, the F’nAround team has been trying to get back into shape and prepare for our first live music appearance of the season. That means more walks, more time outdoors, and occasionally finding a great spot to cool off along the way.
During a recent walk through Greektown and the West Loop with Bella, Joe’s dog and unofficial F’nAround mascot, we decided to stop into an Irish pub called Dugan’s for a break.
We’re glad we did.
From the moment we walked in, the staff made Bella feel just as welcome as the humans. She was allowed to relax comfortably at the bar, was given fresh water, offered treats, and received plenty of attention from both staff and patrons throughout our visit.
For dog owners, that kind of hospitality matters.
Dugan’s also delivered exactly what you want from a neighborhood happy hour spot. The atmosphere was relaxed, the drinks were affordable, and during happy hour beers were just $4. That’s becoming harder and harder to find these days, especially in popular Chicago neighborhoods. The giant picture of Mayor Daley tells you the kind of Irish bar this is.
One of the unexpected highlights was the fresh popcorn machine. There’s something nostalgic about grabbing a cold beer while enjoying freshly popped popcorn, and Dugan’s keeps the popcorn flowing. Between the free popcorn, affordable drinks, and welcoming environment, it quickly became one of those places where you can easily stay longer than planned.
What stood out most was how genuinely dog-friendly the experience felt. Many places advertise themselves as dog-friendly, but Dugan’s actually embraces it. Bella wasn’t treated as an inconvenience; she was treated like a guest.
If you’re looking for a Chicago happy hour spot in Greektown or the West Loop where you can enjoy a cold drink, fresh popcorn, and bring your dog along for the adventure, Dugan’s is absolutely worth a visit.
