As part of F’nAround’s ongoing work as an independent media platform and protected journalistic outlet, we occasionally publish correspondence and commentary tied to our investigative and comedic reporting on public figures, corporations, and cultural events.
At F’nAround, we blend investigative journalism with comedy to unpack the strange overlaps between culture, politics, and power. One of our past episodes, F’nAround Against F’nDiddlers, explored patterns of institutional silence and protection across religion, government, and the cannabis industry rooted right here in Chicago.
So imagine our surprise when a local icon like Malört affectionately known as “the Pope’s drink of choice” quietly launched a limited-edition THC-infused collab with nuEra Cannabis, a cannabis company previously discussed in that very episode.
We saw it as poetic timing. Strange? Sure. Suspicious? Maybe. But above all, it felt like satire begging to be written.

Below is the actual invitation we sent to Malört for a possible episode exploring branding, timing, and cultural chaos with their voice included if they wanted it. Their response followed shortly after.
We weren’t looking for controversy we just thought the timing was too good to ignore. Here’s the exact message we sent:
Malört’s reply came not long after. It was short, formal, and said more in what it didn’t say than what it did:
That’s all. No drama. No comedy yet. Just the quiet tension of timing, branding, and unanswered questions.
We’re still working on ideas for the episode. And in a city where the lines between politics, drugs, liquor, and religion have always blurred, we’re just here to connect the dots when the dots decide to line up on their own.
