Rice and Noodles Review

Rice and Noodles Review A Hidden Thai Gem in Pilsen

After grabbing coffee at Bittersweet, we walked across the street and stumbled upon another unexpected find: Rice and Noodles.

And honestly, a Thai restaurant surviving for six years in Pilsen with very little marketing tells you something right away it probably doesn’t need advertising because the food speaks for itself.

Walking in, we found a simple neighborhood spot with a surprisingly large menu featuring Thai classics, noodle dishes, rice bowls, boba teas, refreshers, and plenty of customization options. The prices were reasonable, especially considering the portion sizes.

Mike was able to order his dish without peanuts, which is always appreciated when restaurants are willing to accommodate dietary restrictions without making it complicated.

I ordered the Lad Nar, my go-to Thai comfort food whenever I find a new Thai restaurant. Their version immediately stood out. The noodles were cooked perfectly, the gravy-style sauce had great flavor, and the extra ginger they incorporated added a twist I wasn’t expecting. It wasn’t overpowering it just gave the dish a fresh kick that made it memorable compared to many Lad Nar dishes I’ve had elsewhere.

Mike’s noodle bowl came piled high with BBQ pork, bean sprouts, scallions, and noodles, delivering both flavor and portion size that made it feel like a great value.

The food arrived quickly, portions were generous, and everything tasted fresh. Combined with the iced lattes we had just enjoyed at Bittersweet, it made for one of those perfect neighborhood food adventures where you accidentally discover two great spots within a few hundred feet of each other.

What We Liked

  • Large portions for the price

  • Fast service

  • Plenty of noodle and rice options

  • Dietary accommodations available

  • Great flavor without being overly heavy

  • Excellent variety of teas, refreshers, and boba drinks

  • Hidden neighborhood feel that locals clearly support

Pilsen is known for its Mexican food, art, murals, and culture, so finding a quality Thai restaurant tucked away on Blue Island Avenue was a pleasant surprise.

Rice and Noodles isn’t trying to be trendy or chase social media hype. It’s simply serving good food at fair prices, and after six years in the neighborhood, that’s probably the best endorsement possible.

If you’re exploring Pilsen, checking out the shops on Blue Island, grabbing coffee at Bittersweet, or just looking for a solid Thai meal, this is absolutely worth a stop.

Great portions, fair prices, fast service, and a Lad Nar that earns a return visit.
