DH Noodles & Grill Chicago Review: New Hand-Pulled Noodles in Chinatown
A new Chinatown lunch spot brings Lanzhou-style hand-pulled noodles, lamb skewers, Big Plate Chicken and Northwest Chinese comfort food to Chicago.
Chicago Chinatown has a new place to add to the lunch rotation. DH Noodles & Grill brings a menu built around Lanzhou-style hand-pulled noodles and Northwestern Chinese dishes to 2002 S. Wentworth Ave. We stopped in for lunch and found a table full of shareable plates, grilled skewers and hearty entrees. The restaurant’s story traces its noodle tradition to Lanzhou, while its menu highlights offer everything from beef noodle soup to wide noodles with spicy oil.
What we ordered at DH Noodles & Grill
Our lunch spread covered a lot of ground: lamb skewers, a scallion pancake roll with beef, a Tornado Potato, eggplant, DH Lamb Pilaf, Big Plate Chicken with wide noodles and a coconut cream cheese ball.
The Big Plate Chicken with wide noodles made a colorful centerpiece, with chicken, potatoes and peppers in a rich-looking sauce over broad noodles. It’s the sort of dish that invites a few people to share and gives those noodles a chance to soak up the sauce.
The DH Lamb Pilaf brought rice, vegetables and lamb to the table, while the lamb skewers added a grilled option to the spread. The scallion pancake roll paired flaky layers with beef, and the Tornado Potato brought some fun to the table because sometimes lunch needs a spiral-cut potato on a stick.
For something to balance the heavier plates, we also ordered eggplant. The menu leans into a mix of noodle dishes, grilled items, rice and sides, so a group can build a meal with different textures and flavors instead of committing to one giant bowl.
A new Chinatown restaurant with a broader menu
DH Noodles & Grill is a good fit for diners looking beyond the usual quick noodle-soup stop. The restaurant’s Northwest Chinese menu includes hand-pulled noodle soups, stir-fried and dry noodles, skewers, rice dishes and shareable entrees. The company describes Lanzhou beef noodle soup as a signature, with broth, sliced beef, radish, herbs and chili oil; the full menu can vary by location, so check the Chicago menu before visiting.
That range makes it easy to plan a lunch around a classic bowl of noodles or turn the meal into a group order with skewers, vegetables, rice and a larger entree in the middle of the table.
