Bachelor’s Grove Brings Chicago’s Haunted Metal Scene Back to Life
If you’ve spent any time around Chicago’s paranormal scene, you’ve probably heard the legends of Bachelor’s Grove Cemetery. For most people it’s one of Chicagoland’s most infamous haunted locations. For the band Bachelor’s Grove, it’s something much bigger a source of inspiration and the foundation of their identity.
F’nAround had the opportunity to catch up with vocalist Abby Schultz during The Alley Block Party in Chicago. While this interview may have spent a little extra time sitting on one of our memory cards (occupational hazard of covering everything from food festivals to courtrooms), we’re glad we finally had the chance to share it because this is a band worth discovering.
A Chicago Band with a Unique Identity
Formed in late 2018, Bachelor’s Grove has carved out its own niche in the Chicago metal scene by blending melodic, symphonic, alternative, and modern metal into something theatrical, emotional, and unmistakably dark. Drawing inspiration from the legendary Bachelor’s Grove Cemetery, the band embraces haunting imagery while pairing it with powerful vocals, crushing guitars, and cinematic songwriting. Bachelor’s Grove has steadily built a following throughout the Midwest and beyond.
Their music has accumulated tens of thousands of streams, with recent releases helping expand their audience. Their 2025 single “Immortality” gained significant attention across social media, introducing the band to many new listeners, while 2026 has already seen multiple new releases including A Dark Devotionand several versions of The Apocalypse Is Tomorrow. Our Thoughts
One thing we appreciated immediately was that Bachelor’s Grove commits completely to what they are.
The gothic aesthetic isn’t a gimmick. The horror influence isn’t forced. The music, visuals, lyrics, and performance all work together to create a consistent identity that feels authentic rather than manufactured.
Watching Abby perform, it’s easy to understand why the band continues building a loyal fan base. She commands the stage while balancing melodic vocals with the intensity the music demands. Combined with tight musicianship from the rest of the band, the live performance feels polished without losing the raw energy that makes local metal shows fun.
Whether you’re already into gothic metal or you’re simply looking for a Chicago band doing something different, Bachelor’s Grove deserves a spot on your playlist.

Bachelor’s Grove has built a recognizable sound, an unforgettable visual style, and a live show that backs it all up.
