The intro to the grant shuffle
Every investigative story starts the same way.
Something catches our attention.
Something doesn’t quite add up.
Something makes the hair on our arms stand up.
At F’nAround, that’s our cue to start digging.
Our newest rabbit hole?
The Grant Shuffle.
Over the last few days we’ve made calls, compared information, and asked questions. Some of the answers surprised us enough that we decided it was time to start filing FOIAs.
Are we saying something improper happened?
No.
We’re saying we found enough inconsistencies to justify asking for the records.
That’s how investigations are supposed to work.
So we’re requesting the score sheets, rankings, reviewer evaluations, point totals, and other records behind the FY27 IDHS respite grant awards.
Maybe everything was scored exactly as it should have been.
If so, great.
We’ll report that.
If not…
Well, documents have a funny way of telling their own story.
