My best friend Juan has been trying to get his story out there and shed light to the corruption in the industry. Wanted to share it for him here.

Juan Finch’s truth about working with Nuera Cannabis

Chicago, Illinois Jul 22, 2024 (Issuewire.com)  - Juan Finch Jr. Following his retirement from the United States Navy, immersed himself in researching and entering the cannabis industry. A close friend of his at Clover alerted him to an opportunity in Illinois, prompting him to explore it further.

Laura Bernal, an owner of Mariworks LLC and COO of Nuera, conducted his interview and collected the necessary information for the license. As he dived into the requirements, he discovered that one crucial condition was being a state resident for at least five years. Initially, he believed his journey had hit an impasse until he was informed that the law was deemed unconstitutional.

Subsequently, Bob Fitzsimmons, owner of Nuera Cannabis(the brands made are Nuera Cannabis, Midweek Friday, Interstate 420, Alchemy, Ieso, and Riseau), engaged a lawyer to pursue legal action. Fitzsimmons, however, preferred to keep his involvement confidential. The lawsuit remained in limbo within the Seventh Circuit court system as they debated its significance (Finch v. Treto).

During this period, it was implied that Juan hindered minorities from obtaining licenses in Illinois. As a bisexual Black veteran, he is committed to promoting inclusivity and ensuring other minorities have equal opportunities in any industry.

Since he lacks a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) with Nuera regarding these events, he is publicly sharing that Nuera exploited an African American man to exclude other minorities from the marijuana industry which neither Laura nor Bob informed him that he would be doing.

Consequently, we are pursuing legal action against Nuera for breach of contract among other things and to expose their unethical practices in pursuit of profit.

The case currently filed in Cook County Circuit Court is 2023L008973.

Although you can't join this lawsuit, there is a group attempting to assemble a class seeking compensation not only for the damages incurred from his suit but also for the treatment of their own employees.
