F’nAround Review: The Smoked Cream Cheese at Blake’s at Southern Milling Is Worth Chasing Before the “Sold Out” Sign Goes Up

Sometimes the best thing on the menu isn’t the brisket.

Sometimes it’s a block of smoked cream cheese.

While covering Windy City Smokeout, we stopped by Blake’s at Southern Milling from Martin, Tennessee, and discovered one of the biggest sleeper hits of the entire festival.

At first, Mike wasn’t even planning on trying it.

Jill and Beth ordered the smoked cream cheese appetizer first, a beautifully smoked block of cream cheese drizzled with hot honey and served alongside buttery Ritz crackers. It looked simple enough…

Then they took a bite.

Then another.

Then another.

Within seconds, the plate looked like it had just gone through a dishwasher. Every last bit of cream cheese and every drizzle of hot honey had mysteriously vanished.

As we were laughing about how quickly they demolished it, we looked over and watched the staff put up the dreaded sign:

SOLD OUT.

Apparently, we weren’t the only ones who figured out this appetizer was something special.

Fortunately, Mike managed to get his hands on one later after Beth convinced him he absolutely had to try it. His full solo review is coming soon, but let’s just say… Beth wasn’t exaggerating.

Sometimes the simplest dishes end up being the ones everyone talks about.

About Blake’s at Southern Milling

Located inside a beautifully restored 1918 grain mill in Martin, Tennessee, Blake’s at Southern Milling has become one of the South’s rising barbecue destinations. Pitmaster Blake Stoker pairs authentic Texas-style barbecue with creative Southern comfort food, all inside one of the coolest historic restaurant spaces you’ll find.

While their brisket, pulled pork, smoked turkey, and the famous Bubba Cole sandwich deserve plenty of attention, don’t overlook the appetizers.

If the smoked cream cheese is available…

Order it immediately.

Don’t think about it.

Don’t debate it.

Don’t tell yourself you’ll come back later.

Because judging by what we witnessed, “later” might come with a sold-out sign.

F’nAround Final Thoughts

Some appetizers are meant to hold you over until the meat arrives.

This one almost steals the entire show.

The smoky cream cheese, sweet kick from the hot honey, and the nostalgic crunch of Ritz crackers somehow come together into one ridiculously addictive bite. It’s rich, smoky, sweet, salty, and almost impossible to stop eating.

Watching Jill and Beth scrape the plate clean before Mike finally got his own chance to try it told us everything we needed to know.

If you’re visiting Blake’s at Southern Milling whether in Martin, Tennessee, or lucky enough to catch them at a barbecue festival make this your first order.

Just don’t wait too long.

The “Sold Out” sign has a habit of showing up.

Sometimes the best food review doesn’t need words.

@_beth_carlson_ proceeds to lick the plate clean while @jillianhay17 cheers her on.

Minutes later…

SOLD OUT

Coincidence? We think not.

The smoked cream cheese with hot honey and Ritz crackers from Blake’s at Southern Milling @blakesatsouthernmilling disappeared faster than our self-control. @mike_lemonjello finally tracked one down another day @windycitysmokeout after Beth convinced him she wasn’t exaggerating… and now we understand.              #food #foodie #review #cheese #yummy
