F’nAround Review: The Mustache Crawl Chicago’s Biggest Bar Crawl
F’nAround Review: The Mustache Crawl Chicago’s Biggest Bar Crawl
There comes a point in everyone’s life when you realize you’re no longer the target demographic.
For us… that moment happened somewhere between stepping over someone sitting on the curb eating pizza with one shoe missing and watching what looked like the 847th group wearing identical Mustache Crawl shirts.
The Mustache Crawl takes over Wrigleyville every summer with more than 30 participating bars and around 15,000 attendees, making it one of Chicago’s biggest organized bar crawls. Your ticket gets you into participating bars, drink specials, breakfast stops, giveaways, gift cards, an official shirt… and yes… supposedly a fake mustache.
And that’s where our first complaint begins.
Where were all the fake mustaches?!
Seriously.
Everywhere we looked we saw Mustache Crawl shirts.
Thousands of them.
But actual fake mustaches?
About as common as someone ordering water after their eighth bar.
The marketing promised an invasion of ridiculous facial hair. Instead, it looked like everyone forgot the most important part of the costume.
That was honestly the biggest disappointment of the day.
The atmosphere, however?
Exactly what you’d expect.
Every sidewalk was packed. Every patio was overflowing. Every corner had another group trying to remember which bar they had just left while confidently walking in the wrong direction.
People were laughing.
People were dancing.
People were sitting on curbs contemplating every decision that led them there.
It was organized chaos in the most Wrigleyville way possible.
Some of the better-known participating stops included Old Crow Smokehouse, Moe’s Cantina, Sluggers, Cubby Bear, Stretch Bar & Grill, Murphy’s Bleachers, Tin Roof, Country Club, HVAC Pub, and plenty more spread throughout the neighborhood.
As people-watchers?
10 out of 10.
As participants?
Let’s just say our knees filed a formal complaint around bar number four.
The funniest part wasn’t even the drinking.
It was realizing we’ve officially entered that magical stage of adulthood where instead of saying:
“Let’s hit all 30 bars!”
…we found ourselves saying:
“Man… those kids are going to feel awful tomorrow.”
Twenty-one-year-old us would’ve called this heaven.
Current us started wondering where the nearest coffee shop was.
Final Verdict
If you’re a college student, recent grad, or just someone who enjoys an all-day party with thousands of other people, you’ll probably have an absolute blast.
If you’re a little older?
You’ll still have fun.
Just don’t be surprised if your biggest takeaway isn’t the drinks…
It’s the sudden realization that ibuprofen has become part of your nightlife strategy.
F’nAround Rating:
Great atmosphere. Great people watching. Tons of energy.
But next year…
We Mustache one thing…
Can somebody actually wear the fake mustaches? They were the whole reason we got excited in the first place.
