White Claw ClawTails Bring Cocktail Flavor Without the Cocktail Fuss
White Claw ClawTails Bring Cocktail Flavor Without the Cocktail Fuss
Mike and Alexis sampled all four flavors at El Grito Chicago and this was one festival tasting Mike could actually see himself buying again.

El Grito Chicago gave us plenty to eat, drink, film and experience, but one of the easiest stops to keep coming back to was the White Claw ClawTails tent.
Mike stopped by with Alexis to sample the full lineup, and they did it the only proper way: one flavor at a time, with a fresh cheers before every cup.
The lineup included Mango Margarita, Blackberry Mojito, Strawberry Cosmo and Tropical Mai Tai. These are not being marketed as traditional hard seltzers or canned cocktails. White Claw calls them ClawTails: lightly sparkling, 7% alcohol-by-volume malt beverages made with fruit juice.
That distinction makes sense once you taste them. They have more flavor and body than the average hard seltzer, but they do not feel as heavy or syrupy as some premixed canned cocktails. At a busy outdoor festival, that middle ground worked.
Four Flavors, Four Cheers
The Mango Margarita brought the familiar combination of mango and lime. It was bright, tropical and easy to understand immediately. If you normally gravitate toward margarita-inspired drinks, this is probably the most natural place to start.
The Blackberry Mojito combined blackberry and lime for a darker fruit flavor with a citrus finish. It stood apart from the rest of the lineup and gave the tasting a little more variety than simply moving from one sweet tropical flavor to another.
The Strawberry Cosmo paired strawberry with cranberry juice. It delivered the fruit-forward profile its name promises while still keeping enough tartness to stop it from tasting flat.
The Tropical Mai Tai used pineapple and passion fruit juice. It tasted like the most obvious vacation-in-a-can of the group a good fit for a warm day, live music and a crowd celebrating in Grant Park.
Mike and Alexis gave every sample its own cheers, which quickly became part of the fun. More importantly, none of the four felt like a novelty flavor that was interesting for one sip and then forgotten.
The Real Test: Would Mike Drink Them Again?
Festival samples are designed to make products look good. The real question is whether someone would still want the drink after leaving the branded tent.
For Mike, the answer was yes.
He genuinely liked the ClawTails and could see himself drinking them again not just taking a complimentary sample because we happened to be covering an event. They are flavorful enough for someone who wants more than a basic hard seltzer, but convenient enough that nobody has to carry cocktail ingredients, mix anything or wait at a bar.
That makes them easy to picture at a backyard party, barbecue, beach day, summer festival or just sitting outside with friends. Open the can, keep it cold and the drink is ready.
The 7% ABV is also worth noticing. These may drink easily, but they are stronger than many standard hard seltzers. That is not a criticism; it is simply something to remember while sampling several flavors under the sun. Cold, refreshing and fruit-forward can make the alcohol feel less obvious than the number printed on the can.
The F’nAround Verdict
White Claw did not simply rename another seltzer and throw cocktail artwork on the package. ClawTails occupy a useful space between a light sparkling drink and a heavier premixed cocktail.
All four flavors were distinct, enjoyable and well suited to an outdoor event. Mango Margarita offered the familiar crowd-pleaser. Blackberry Mojito brought something a little different. Strawberry Cosmo balanced sweet fruit with cranberry tartness. Tropical Mai Tai delivered the full warm-weather flavor.
Mike liked them, Alexis made the tasting better, and the repeated cheers turned a product sample into one of those small festival moments that actually makes the final recap.
Would Mike drink them again? Absolutely. The bigger question is which flavor gets opened first.
F’nAround Rating: Refreshing, flavorful and officially Mike-approved.
